The Alpha Zeta Chapter regrettably announces the passing of two dear brothers: brother Duncan M. Cruickshanks ’59 & Robert N. Williams ’59. Their obituaries can be found below.
DUNCAN M. CRUICKSHANKS
1957 – 2015 | Obituary | Condolences
Cruickshanks, Duncan M. Age 58, passed away at the Lahey Clinic on Friday May 29, 2015, after a brief illness, surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Heather (Downs) Cruickshanks, and son of the late George M. and Helen (Carder) Cruickshanks. Duncan and his twin sister Diane were born on February 14, 1957 in Milton, MA. He attended Milton schools before earning a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Rochester in 1979. At school he joined the Theta Chi Fraternity. Duncan and Heather Downs were married on June 26, 1987 at the Bethany Congregational Church in Foxborough and then settled in Reading. Duncan worked for many years in sales and had been Vice President of Sales at INSYDE Software in Westboro, MA for the past ten years. He enjoyed vacationing at his home on Cape Breton Island, N.S. and was an active member of the Presbyterian Church of Burlington. Besides his beloved wife Heather, he is survived by two children, Sarah Fay and Alexander Rory Cruickshanks of Reading. He was the brother of Donald A Cruickshanks and wife Karen of Madison, WI; Diane May and husband Frank of Nashville, TN; Fay Stone and husband Harry of Londonderry, NH and of the late Helen Cruickshanks. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a Memorial Service to be held on Saturday, June 6th, at10:30AM at The Presbyterian Church of Burlington, 335 Cambridge Street, Burlington, MA. Robert N. Williams
Pittsford: 5/21/1936-6/27/2015. Robert “Bob” Williams, son of the late Joseph H. and Helen M., passed away Saturday, June 27, 2015. He was born, raised, and lived in Rochester, NY for the duration of his life. He was a 1959 graduate of the University of Rochester and proud member of the Theta Chi Fraternity serving as the alumni president for many years. He was a longstanding member of Rochester Rotary where he served on many committees and through which he tutored and befriended many children at School 8, known as “Mr. Bob,”
He traveled extensively, nationally and abroad, with his family and opened his home to not only Rotary ambassadors, but also to several foreign exchange students. He began his career in the family business, Quality Mattress, and when that was sold, went into the brokerage business, first with Quinby & Co., and then Quick and Reilly. He also served on the board of the former University Club, was an avid sailor/member at the Canandaigua Yacht Club.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 48 years, Elizabeth (Beth), his son, Robert (wife, Dagmar) Williams of Nuremberg, Germany, his daughter, Laura (husband, Joshua) Girton of Annapolis, Maryland, two grandchildren, Zachariah and Avery Girton, his sister, Beverly W. Fox, Naples, FL and her son W. Bruce Fox and many other relatives.
